--- Comparing children working in advertisements, serials and reality shows to “performing animals”, women and child development minister Renuka Chowdhury said her ministry has decided to set up a five-member committee to look into the working conditions of these children.
“These children are almost like performing animals but at least there are certain guidelines for animals while there are no working conditions defined for these children,” Ms Chaudhury said on the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour. The minister said there are no guidelines to define the number of hours for these children and there are no provisions for them getting nutritious food while they are working ---
Of late, many TV channels in India started exploiting the young talent. I was wondering whenever I happened to watch the shows involving children, why these kids have to undergo vigorous practice to perform dance to the movie tunes, games, advertisements, reality shows. Children of age between 3 to 10 become targets for the so called ‘cReaTive heaDs’.
There is absolutely no need for the kids to be performing in these shows, without proper sleep and nutritious food. Childhood is meant for play creatively, learn new things, study and relax after school. Parents should take note of it and shun from indulging their kids in the shows.
This is a good move by the Ministry and sure the TV channels should introspect, does the entertainment media need necessarily exploit children to do the shows and advertisements!
